Since Vista B2, I faced the same problem to install Visual Studio.NET 2003 Professional: The prerequisites CD fail to install.NET framework 1.1 and J#.Net framework 1.1, so I can’t continue the installation process since prerequisites aren’t guarantees. I can figure how I can’t install.NET framework 1.1 since Vista come with its own 3.0.NET framework. But why.NET 2003 install process still want to install an older.Net framework? Moreover, this issue could be bypassed by installing Visual Studio.NET 2003 Professional on XP SP2, then by upgrading XP to Vista. Not so convenientand it is no long working with Vista RC2 upgrade.
Is their any plan to correct this issue? Context: Vista B2, RC1, RC2 and Visual studio.NET 2003 Professional installation. ============ Update: It seems that VS2003 won't install only if vista RC2 is installed as ghest OS inside VPC2007.
But, upgrading XPSP2 to Vista RC2 with VS2003 already installed doesn't work anymore. Are you aware of this? '.However, we will not support Visual Studio.NET 2002 or Visual Studio.NET 2003 as development environments on Windows Vista.'
Of course, I was not. For now, I have no interest about.NET development of any kind. I want our C++ MFC7.1 applications to be compiled, ran and the most important: debugged under Vista. That is why I must use VS2003 under Vista. Fortunately and until now, I always succeeded to install VS2003 under Vista, using very inconvenient methods but I recently succeeded a 'normal' VS2003 install under Vista RC2.
VS2003 C++ development process under Vista is (until now) the same compared to those under XP. That is why I don’t understand this article remarks about VS2003.
According to the size of our project, it’s impossible to change our IDE without a strong validating process. Moreover, I think it s not safe to change operating system and IDE at the same time.
That’s why I very hope that VS2003 will install and work under Vista RTM. It is most unpleasant for us web developers on Visual Studio.NET 2003 Pro that we cannot maintain our solutions on Vista, just because Microsoft decided not to support ASP.NET 1.1 by default. I do not see their problem; now I'm just about to install a copy of Windows 2000 on another drive, where I would create and test my webapps again - and use Vista for desktop apps until I buy the Orcas.
You leave me no choice here. Of course, like kayle said, the situation is amazing, but more than amazing it is uncomfortable and at least odd. Please, Microsoft, do something to alleviate this problem, because like many others I've spent a cart of money on you and this is enough for you to give me the possibility to keep on developing 1.1 projects in the environments I prefer, be it 2003, 2005 or 2007. Thank you for nothing.
